All-In-One Energy Metering Has Arrived — Introducing the IoTEmeter Series by Smart Charging Technologies
One device. Meter, enclosure, cellular connectivity, and a five-year LTE data plan — all included. Here's what that means for your operation.
Orlando, FL – 5/27/26 — Most energy metering solutions are sold in pieces. You buy the meter from one vendor, the enclosure from another, track down a cellular router separately, and then figure out a data plan on top of all of it. By the time you've assembled a complete, cellular-connected metering solution, you've spent more than twice what you expected — and you haven't installed a single device yet.
Smart Charging Technologies built the IoTEmeter Series to end that cycle.
The IoTEmeter Series is a family of cellular-connected energy metering and remote power control devices that ship complete and ready to deploy. Every device includes the meter, enclosure, built-in cellular connectivity, and a five-year LTE data plan — all in one package. No add-ons. No monthly plans to manage. No vendor juggling. A licensed electrician handles installation, and cellular handles the rest.
The series covers two distinct product lines built for two different layers of the energy monitoring challenge: IoTEmeter for sub-panel and zone-level facility metering, and IoTEmeter SP for equipment-level metering and remote power control at the individual asset.
The Problem: Most Facilities Don't Know Where Their Energy Actually Goes
For most operations, energy visibility stops at the utility bill. Total consumption for the month, a dollar amount, and not much else. Some facilities invest in periodic energy audits — useful, but limited to the window in which they're conducted. The moment the audit is complete, operations continue to change: equipment gets added, schedules shift, seasonal loads fluctuate. The audit data ages immediately.
The alternative — a full building energy management system — solves the continuity problem but introduces a new one: complexity, cost, and months of implementation before a single useful reading is available.
Neither approach gives operations teams what they actually need: continuous, zone-level visibility into where energy is going, without the overhead of enterprise infrastructure.
That's exactly what the IoTEmeter Series was built to deliver.
Introducing the IoTEmeter Series
IoTEmeter — Sub-Panel Energy Metering
IoTEmeter is installed at electrical distribution sub-panels, providing continuous zone-level visibility into energy consumption across a facility. One device monitors many loads — a one-to-many architecture that makes it practical to meter multiple areas without deploying multiple systems.
What IoTEmeter measures and provides:
- Energy consumption for specific areas or equipment at the sub-panel level
- Data to support accurate cost allocation by area, zone, or load
- Visibility into energy waste and where facility performance optimization opportunities exist
- Continuous monitoring — persistent data over time, not a periodic audit
Who it's built for:
IoTEmeter is designed for facility managers, property and industrial operators, energy efficiency consultants, telecom and infrastructure operators, and remote energy system operators — anyone who needs to understand energy consumption at the zone level without deploying enterprise-scale building management infrastructure.
What makes it different:
Every IoTEmeter ships as a complete turnkey package. Meter, enclosure, built-in cellular, and a five-year LTE data plan are all included. Where competing solutions require purchasing a separate cellular router, enclosure, current transformers, and an ongoing data plan — often costing more than twice as much before the first reading — IoTEmeter arrives ready to install from the box.
All data feeds directly into SCT's Smart Telemetrics platform.
IoTEmeter SP — Equipment-Level Power Metering and Remote Control
IoTEmeter SP takes energy visibility to the individual asset level. Installed inline on a single AC power feed, each SP device meters the power consumption of a specific piece of equipment and adds built-in remote power control — giving operators the ability to reboot, schedule, and manage power from anywhere, without dispatching a technician to the site.
Like the standard IoTEmeter, every SP device ships as a complete turnkey unit. Meter, enclosure, cellular connectivity, and a five-year LTE data plan included — at less than half the cost of assembling an equivalent cellular-connected solution from competing components.
What IoTEmeter SP measures and provides:
- Power usage of a specific piece of equipment — one device, one outlet, full visibility
- Charger usage when the outlet is dedicated to an EV or industrial charger
- Load patterns for that equipment over time
- On/off remote reboot and power scheduling — no on-site access required
Two configurations, built for different electrical environments:
IoTEmeter SP-1 is a 2-pole, single-phase device operating at 208/240VAC. Designed for legacy EV charging ports without native metering, onboard chargers on electric forklifts and vehicles, and standalone single-phase industrial equipment. If you have equipment drawing power with no visibility into how much or when — SP-1 is the answer.
IoTEmeter SP-3 is a 3-pole, three-phase device operating at 480VAC. Built for eTRUs (electric transport refrigeration units), three-phase industrial infrastructure, telecom and power operators, and remote or outdoor equipment sites. IP66 / NEMA 4X rated for harsh environments. Cellular-connected by design, making it equally suited to controlled indoor environments and remote, unstaffed sites where on-site access is impractical.
Both variants include optional temperature and humidity sensor support and three years of cloud access and alerts.
Why Turnkey Matters: The Hidden Cost of Piecing It Together
When evaluating energy metering solutions, the sticker price on a meter is rarely the full cost of deployment. Building a comparable cellular-connected metering solution from individual components typically requires:
- A meter — sold separately
- A cellular router or gateway — sold separately, and often the largest single cost in the build
- An enclosure — sold separately
- Current transformers — sold separately
- An ongoing cellular data plan — billed monthly or annually on top of hardware
By the time those components are sourced, configured, and deployed, the total solution cost frequently exceeds twice the price of an IoTEmeter device — before a single reading has been taken.
IoTEmeter eliminates that entire process. One SKU. One decision. Data flowing from day one.
For operations teams managing multiple sites, distributed equipment, or infrastructure in remote locations, the compounding effect of that simplicity is significant — both in initial deployment cost and in ongoing management overhead.
How the IoTEmeter Series Works
Every IoTEmeter Series device is cellular-connected by design. Once physically installed by a licensed electrician, each device begins transmitting energy data continuously to SCT's Smart Telemetrics platform — no network configuration, no IT involvement, no Wi-Fi dependency.
IoTEmeter standard connects at the sub-panel and monitors all loads fed by that panel. One installation point, continuous visibility across every circuit on that panel.
IoTEmeter SP connects inline on a single AC power feed — between the outlet and the equipment. It meters that specific asset, captures load patterns over time, and gives operators remote on/off control and scheduling capability from the Smart Telemetrics platform without requiring physical access to the equipment or location.
Both product lines are built for real-world operating environments — including facilities without reliable Wi-Fi, multi-site operations where consistent network infrastructure can't be assumed, and remote or outdoor installations where traditional wired connectivity isn't viable.
Availability
The IoTEmeter Series is available now. All devices deploy without IT infrastructure or network setup — a licensed electrician handles installation, and cellular connectivity handles the rest.
