Smart Charging Technologies (SCT), an independent provider of motive power fleet intelligence, today announced the launch of the Motive Power SCORE Program, a managed service that gives fleet operators independent data before they commit to their next battery, charger, or truck decision — including the lithium-ion conversions an increasing number of fleets are now considering. The program was developed in response to a consistent finding across SCT's fleet data: considerable capital that often remains unused in oversized batteries and underutilized chargers and forklift truck equipment.

That finding matters because total cost of ownership across a mixed motive power fleet has become increasingly difficult to see clearly, and most fleet and DC teams do not want to take on another complex system to learn and maintain. To date, two independent deployments illustrate the scale of the opportunity. A 20-site grocery distribution network identified $556,100 in stranded capital in 75 days, without a single new equipment purchase — the result of right-sizing alone. A separate audit of a large retailer's North American distribution network found $1,097,000 in identified savings at a single site, with original battery sizing assumptions off by 60 to 75 percent from actual measured use. Across the fleets SCT has measured, the same pattern recurs: roughly 70% of fleets run on less than half of their available battery capacity daily, and 20 to 30 percent of chargers sit barely used.
